2 April 02 (35 minutes)

Removed rear driver's side wheel, jacked up back of car and inserted axle stands. Cut through rear anti roll bar. Tried to cut through leaf spring - burnt out the motor on the angle grinder. Back to Argos for a replacement!

3 April 02 (1 hour)

Cut through leaf springs and all anti roll bars. Unbolted shock absorbers and lowered back axle to the ground.

8 April 02 (1 hour 5 minutes)

Removed handbrake lever, heater unit and air vents. Removed wipers, motor and linkage. Started to remove seat belts and the rear half of the wiring loom.

9 April 02 (1 hour 20 minutes)

Removed the tail lights and the rest of the loom. I had to remove the petrol tank to get at the driver's side tail lights. Removed the rest of the seat belts. I now need to give the garage a good tidy up and then it's time to get the body shell removed. I'll probably need about 5 -6 guys to lift it out of the garage, ready for the scrap metal merchant to collect.

16 April 02 (45 minutes on car, 1 hour buying steel, 1.5 hours working out dimensions!)

Picked up the RHS steel tubing from Metal Supermarket in Livingston during my lunch hour.

Rang up local scrap metal merchants to arrange shell collection. (I had visited a month ago and they said to ring and they would pick it up with a grab). The woman on reception said they did not collect! Change of plan - I found a friend who had access to a car trailer. He offered to move the shell on Saturday.

To make the shell lighter (and to provide the steel for the floor, I took out the front and back screens and started to cut the roof off. Used 2 grinding disks on the pillars and did not finish. (Must remember to buy at least £10 worth of disks)

Started to work out cutting list. Discovered differences between the book and McSorley PDF plans. (See query at Locostbuilders)

22 April 02 (25 Minutes)

Cut through the rest of the roof and removed. Remove rear number plate and VIN plate. Removed petrol pipe that runs from front to back of car. I would have continued with the grinder but there was a small amount of petrol left in the pipe that dripped on the floor.

23 April 02 (1hour 15 minutes)

Still having problems getting rid of the shell. To make to easier to move I cut it in half across the gear stick hole. This took quite a lot of time and a lot of grinding disks. I used up a lot of the disks that broke up on the edges.

28 May 02 (5 Hours)

Another local Locost builder (Duncan Black), came around to help work out the correct chassis dimensions using a CAD package called Pro Engineer. I now have an accurate set of plans to follow when cutting the steel tubes.
